I’m doing some blog cleanup.
New look
I just recently have this shiny new theme for the blog.
I’m really loving the colors, and the ability to shamelessly plug my courses in the right side-bar. (Below the content if you’re reading on mobile).
New analytics
I don’t want to track anyone.
But I do want to know:
- which posts are popular
- which not so much
- what are people 404-ing on
To that end, I was using Netlify server side analytics.
It was ok, but also rather restrictive.
So, I’m now trying Fathom Analytics (shameless referral code which gives me a small commision, plus you get $10 credit).
I’m not plugging this to get some referral commision. I mean, that’d be cool, of course. But I’m plugging it because it rocks so far.
Super easy to use, doesn’t track anyone, and just by default gives me almost everything I want. The 404 tracking thing was a smidge extra work, but the docs show you exactly how to do it.
Plus the email support has been awesome.
Now a review of old posts
Now that I have analytics, I noticed that stuff from the beginning of time (for this blog, that’s 2012) is still getting read quite a bit. That’s great!
But also, hmmm. I hope that stuff still works. And I hope I didn’t tell people to do dumb stuff…..
So. I’m slowly working my way up from the bottom of the Blog Archive and correcting if necessary.
Feedback would be great
I just finished a review of the unittest introduction. I changed a couple things. But also I realize I don’t really remember how discovery works. So, if you’re a unittest user, please take a look and if I’ve gotten something wrong, reach out.
Also, any other posts that need some TLC sooner than later, feel free to let me know.
